The Blue Flag is an important international recognition that has been awarded to the best European and Extra-European seaside resorts since 1987.

Criteria to be awarded a blue flag include different parameters: water quality, coastline quality, services and facilities and safety measures. Further criteria dealing with environmental education and the implementation of targeted recycling and purification plants have recently been introduced.
